Since 2016, the two nations that are and have been leading the way regarding robots in the medicine industry are Singapore and South Korea. South Korea boasts 631 robots per 10,000 employees, which is eight times the global average. Southeast Asian nations are significantly outperforming the rest of the world, and Europe and the United States lag significantly behind.
The 3 most important robots in the medical industry are the following:
(1) The da Vinci Surgical Robot, was introduced 15 years ago, and is a multi-armed Wonderbot that is being used to reduce surgical errors that have damaged the health of thousands of patients. The laparoscopic surgery from the da Vinci robot costs between 8 and 12 thousand dollars — 3 to 6 thousand more than a normal laparoscopic surgery.
(2) The ALF-X, which the company rebranded as the Senhance Robotic Surgical System is a medical device that represents the biggest competitor for Intuitive Surgical in the field of urology, gynecology or colorectal surgery. A surgery from this robot costs anywhere from $3,000 to $6,000 more than a normal gynecology or colorectal surgery — hence, meaning the costs can vary from $25,000 to $31,000.
(3) The Xenex Germ-Zapping Robot, is an automated and portable robot used to disinfect medical rooms in a matter of minutes with excellent results by using pulsed, full-spectrum UV rays that kill a range of infectious bacteria. This robot costs around $100,000 and the cost of using it is undefined.
Recently in the medical field robots have been used to operate on patients. They have created a new advantage in this field but some people might think it is controversial. Several jobs have been displaced in this industry. Doctors, surgeons and nurses might be replaced by robots in the medical fields. Robots at the moment are being trained to predict diseases and create a diagnosis. Also, most healthcare information in the 20th century are now found mainly on apps. Even though people say Robots won’t fully replace Physicians due to the human aspect the patient need but instead they will help them with their work.
Humans indeed are adapting with their robot co-workers and bosses in the medical field because they are a big help for them. Since robots can be created a certain way, they can build them a certain size to help them get to smaller parts of the human body. Also, robots have helped millions of doctors improve their efficiency since they have been trained to help them with sutures which is not a complicated job for them. One of the procedures that robots have helped a lot of doctors doing is eliminating prostate cancer.
Even though people might think that robots are going to take over the medical field, it would be almost impossible to replace medical professionals. Robots might help in surgeries but patients need the human “touch”. Robots will only mainly provide help for doctors to make smarter choices and fix errors whenever they are doing long and complicated surgeries.
In the medical industry, robots hurt some people by taking the place of some jobs. However, robots are much more beneficial in the medical industry because they make tests and procedures must easier, faster, and safer for medical staff and patients. The implementation of robots in the medical industry will take the place of many jobs which may inevitably render many medical degrees and diplomas nearly useless. However, robots will also create new jobs for people in the medical industry. There will need to be more people with specialized skills to operate, fix, clean, and create the robots and machines.
While the job deficit in the medical industry will increase with the integration of robots, more people will benefit from the robots as patients. Robots will be able to more precisely and safely operate on patients in surgeries and tests allowing for a faster recovery time and overall safer and cleaner procedure. Robots can also potentially lower the cost of procedures in the future once robots are more common in the medical industry.
Educational Institutions should train students on how to operate the robots. Robots are there to make things easier, therefore; it is our job to fulfill these needs. By having proper instruction this can be done effortlessly. The institution can also teach students to think outside the box on improving these robots. They can think of all different shapes, sizes, reasons, etc. in order to make life easier. If they can have the mindset of on more effective robot, they can change the world.
The End Game is to see a working and more efficient world. Humans and robots can work in-sync with each other. It is not simple with actually understanding why robots are here and what they are doing, but it can come in handy when used properly, especially in the medical field. The medical field’s stakeholders are heavily relied upon, and stress can be taken off by simply letting robots come in. We should expect one day that robots will rule the world, and all we can do is figure out smart productive ways to keep up with them.
